Dynamic Lightbox solution for Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

Solution
We designed and manufactured six bespoke LED lightboxes using our 100mm-deep silver anodised aluminium extrusion system. Each lightbox measured 1,416mm x 3,000mm combining to form a continuous light wall array spanning 8,500mm. The lightboxes were glazed with 8mm low-iron toughened glass, with reverse-applied full-colour digitally printed graphics depicting a sunrise through beautiful Silver Birch woodland. The image and dynamic lighting tones have created a calming and uplifting visual focus within the space.
Changing Illumination
To achieve the dynamic lighting effect, a DALI (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface) control system was integrated to allow the light wall to automatically adjust colour temperature and intensity throughout the day, mimicking natural daylight. The programmed “curve” transitions gradually from a cool, blue-white morning light, to a warm amber evening glow, supporting the body’s circadian cycle and enhancing the patient experience.
LED Technology
Our in-house technical team developed a bespoke LED system combining cool and warm white diodes to deliver the full range of lighting tones. All DALI programming, sequencing, and calibration were completed and tested at our factory prior to despatch, ensuring a seamless and efficient on-site installation.
Installation & Commissioning
Our professional installation team completed the works efficiently and to the client’s satisfaction. Each lightbox was mounted using a concealed split aluminium “Z” baton fixing system, providing a secure, precise and clean finish that complements the architectural setting.
