The Colonnades Shopping Centre
Design & Manufacture

Custom-engineered LED Light Panels for The Colonnades Shopping Centre.
Client Team
Collabration
DLG Architects, working in close collaboration with the NES design and technical teams over a two-year period, developed a system to clad the structural columns in diffused glass panels, each panel was frameless mounted and measured approximately 2.7 metres in height, creating a seamless and luminous architectural feature.

The Installation & Focal Point
A key focal point of the installation was the corner column, where Matrix LED Light Panels were custom-engineered to integrate around the glazing brackets, this detail proved critical in projecting light evenly across the glass-to-glass corner junction, maintaining visual continuity and maximising light distribution.

Technical details
The ceiling incorporates two continuous extruded aluminium LED linear luminaires, each fitted with extruded PMMA acrylic clip-in covers for ease of cleaning and maintenance, these linear fixtures extend across the full 38-metre length of the passageway and operate on a synchronised lighting programme.

Flexibility & Scalability
To enhance flexibility and ensure future scalability, the lighting system employs 15,000 individually addressable RGB LEDs, this configuration allows for comprehensive control of each LED node, either directly via laptop or through pre-programmed sequences using various controllers. While initial testing showcased smooth colour wash transitions, the system architecture supports advanced lighting effects including video playback, animated content, text and interactive media.
